I have had an interesting few days trawling through boxes of jewellery, unearthed from hidden and forgotten places. It has been a real trip to a past life, from the religious medals so assiduously collected at school, through the charm bracelet – each charm with a memory-, the hippie beads put together with love and friendship and on to the start of a lifelong interest in collecting contemporary jewellery.
My first purchase of a piece by a named designer was a pair of silver earrings by Nancy Hatch. They were bought from Rye Art Gallery, which is still going strong, sometime in the seventies. They were silver birds and I probably wore them all the time.
