As part of Dazzle Invites we called upon industry experts to select their favourite pieces from the exhibition. Each week we will feature a new guests selection. This week we asked jewellery expert & Director of ‘LOOT: MAD About Jewelry‘, Bryna Pomp to pick her top four pieces from Dazzle Invites.
Having spent her entire career in the field, Bryna Pomp is a globally recognised expert in contemporary jewellery. Working for the Museum of Arts and Design in New York as Director of MAD About Jewelry since 2011, she is focused on strategically searching the world for the most innovative, creative, skilled contemporary jewellery makers to present at this annual sale at the Museum.
Duo Earrings by Lucy Martin
I love the very asymmetric, yet totally balanced, composition of these earrings. Lucy is a master of combining complementary stone colours and shapes with different metals. With its blue and green palette I find this earring to be so happy and up-lifting.
Vortex Brooch by Michelle Fernandez
This striking brooch so aesthetically combines such opposites: fragile eggshell and hard resin; black and white; organic nature and manmade. The meticulous skill Michelle has mastered in reassembling eggshell shards into a beautiful mosaic is extraordinary.
Void Earrings by Sarah Pulvertaft
To me these earrings are so very modern and cool. The monochromatic, very dark oxidisation in these earrings is striking, and the way the cubes move and reflect light is just wonderful. Sarah’s signature look of kinetic repetitive elements is fantastic, and so totally original.
3 Layer Leaf Necklace by Yoko Izawa
There is so much I love about Yoko’s work: the boldness yet weightlessness of her materials; its strength yet its delicacy; its richness of colour and its very subtle gradation of hues. Yoko’s sense of shape, texture, and palette are superb.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 16 November 2021 – 9 January 2022.
